Given his position's official title it's only natural to assume he made some pretty important choices. But in the end it isn't a one-man-thing so whoever replaces him will probably do little to nothing different. they're free to surprise me, though.

Apparently the prospect of them being able to tank came up. Kaplan's response was to stage server-crashing protests. His disposition did not notably improve once he started working on WoW.

You sound no better than the people who think GC had a vendetta against their class. Things like that are just silly.

Take cover, kids, Lev is judging people again!

edit: Ghostcrawler's goodbye post:

Quote:
You know that part at the end of raid night when the final boss is dead and youíre done handing out loot and everyone kind of goes their separate ways? Yeah, this is one of those times.

We just came off of a great BlizzCon. We had so many different games to talk about, and we were thrilled at the reception of Warlords of Draenor. It was great to meet or reconnect with so many of you. I love BlizzCon dearly, which makes it so hard to tell you that this will be my last one, or at least my last one up on stage. An opportunity has come my way, and I have made the very tough decision to move on from Blizzard.

I wanted to thank all of you for being a part of this grand quest. I have said a hundred times that having passionate gamers, including the angry ones, is a far better place to be than having a community that doesnít care. You all care. Like us, you want the game to be the best that it can be. So I ask you to keep on providing your feedback. I promise (and I rarely promise!) that the developers care very much about what you have to say.

Iíll be out there, and I canít imagine it will be that hard to find me.

Hugs,
Ghostcrawler

P.S. No, you canít have a pony. Or a moose. Or a mantis shrimp. Or a tardigrade. Or a crab. Keep trying though.

P.P.S. I play a Holy Priest.

aaaand from his twitter:

Quote:
The internet loves to play detective, but in this case it was a great opportunity and time to move on. I wasn't fired or asked to step down.

And on that note, SoL is a forum I no longer enjoy. So, I'm done here. And I genuinely think the people who have absolutely nothing at all positive to say about the game and, the people whose posts are composed entirely of whining, really consider leaving (or at least sticking to non-WoW sections). Because if you truly get no enjoyment out of WoW, then why are you here?

With that said, goodbye.

Sad to see him go. I don't think people realize how precious his forum posts, blog posts, and twitter feed really were - it's rare to have that sort of transparency. And he was good at what he did, even if I disagreed with him at times (and on occasion found him to be frustratingly misinformed, re: 25 raids in Cata).

However, the man wasn't exactly a legend. I don't think the game itself will suffer from the changeover to... someone (Kaplan was a world designer... not systems). At any rate, there's a whole systems team out there that's still going.

Look, the guy had an outspoken record of antipathy towards the class (in addition to a generally abrasive attitude overall). The fact that the class started to see massive improvements to its viability shortly after he left may be circumstantial evidence, but in conjunction with his disposition it paints a damning picture. There's a difference between one's displeasure at the current state of affairs manifesting in anger at the powers that be, and a look back at history to get a picture of events that have already transpired.

Ok, if it really is Tigole, than this will be funny, since as I said before, he was the Orgiginal Scapegoat, when somebody was nerfed.

Even if he was a lead designer he does not make every decision on the game so it will not change that much. Moving on is what life is about.

US forums seems to be handling (at least the sticky) the thing pretty well most of the posts are "noes I will miss you" kind of thing.

Alas GC, I will miss thee.

And it must have been one hell of an opportunity to have him leave Blizzard.

Ghostcrawler plays a Holy Priest just like me. That just means I am better than all you guys. No wonder my class has always been designed so well.

Well, that explains the mentality behind mythic mode, actually.

The "with 20 people we can assume you will have one of everyone" explanation sounds like in vanilla, when you had to have a priest for mind control and stuff like that, common back then.
