Default Dishonored

I figure this game deserves a thread. I'm having a grand old time knifing people's throats and watching them dissolve into ash. Does it deserve/need/warrant a sequel? How did you play it through the first time? What do you think about all the backstory?

And shall we gather for whiskey and cigars later tonight?

Something along those lines.

I see. Is it like some kind of psuedo-steampunk RPG?

Reminds me of a Steampunk version of Deus Ex: HR.

It's a pretty awesome game, and I'll give it a check if I have time.

Anyway, I find it goddamn weird this world's fuel is... whales? I was like: Da fuck? xD

Whales?

Am I to assume it's whalefat/whalegrease?

In which case, I don't find it so very odd...

22 hours later, I've finished killing my way through my first playthrough.

Oh god, everyone's dead! Everyone's dead! Even Samuel, that fool, that noble fool, why'd you have to go and try to give me away? I didn't want to kill you! I didn't want to kill any of you! I just got a little...carried away.

At least the Outsider's happy.

Medivh

By the dark power vested in me, I conjure this thread from beyond the veil to serve once more its true purpose!

There are obviously a lot of parallels between this trailer and the cinematic trailer for the original game, but I think the corpse-flies in that guy's stomach have the rats eating that guy's finger beaten on the gross factor.

I'm very curious about her powers in that last bit, seems she can turn to some kind of smoke monster.

I hope there are aesthetic differences between Corvo and Emily's powers.

Do you think she got powers from the Outsider directly? Or via Corvo, the way Daud passed them to his men?

It sounds like the Outsider was talking to her, and he mentioned "the power I've given you."

I'd prefer Emily as the only available player character, to be honest, but I'm not sure how the two-character system is going to work so it may be premature to say it'll never fly.

I like that the target has a portrait of Sokolov hanging in his study. I wonder how many of our old friends will be kicking around.

True, so her powers are likely her own then.

I'd be fine with that too, but I'm happy they're being ambitious. And I'm interested in seeing how it pans out.

I like that the painting of Sokolov, is of Sokolov while he's painting. Frankly though, I can't imagine we'll see too many recurring folks, why would good ol Slackjaw give up his cozy operation in Dunwall after all?

And Daud... frankly I just hope he's doing something meaningful in his retirement.

I think Daud and Slackjaw are unlikely to have any presence at all. Both might even be dead at this point. Even if they're alive, Slackjaw's unlikely to have any interest in Karnaca and Daud's probably smart enough to keep his head down.

But Piero and Sokolov, the genius physicians who saved the world, must surely be present at least by reputation.

Samuel may have passed by now. It's got to be at least ten years, right?

I guess there's not a lot of other characters interesting enough to recur, but I wonder how the succession crisis will be represented.

I hope Corvo finds his voice. I want to hear him and Emily interact.

Karnaca's a whole lot sunnier and a whole lot less oppressively industrial than Dunwall, but I hope they haven't lost the whale oil aesthetics, nor the pervading darkness of the water that made Dishonored so delightfully grim. I guess the corpse-flies will add some level of horror, at any rate. I mean, ewwwww.

1. Exactly.

2. At the very least, by reputation and some ingame items and such.

3. Yeah, Sam and any other surviving members of the Conspiracy aren't likely to make an appearance sadly. We could see Billie Lurk I suppose though.

4. Feuding Dukes and Religious figures no doubt.

5. I'm fine either way, I like silent protags but I'd also like him and Emily chatting.

6. Perhaps a mix of day / night in the same areas? Or delving underground / into buildings? I do hope we learn more about the Outsider and whales and such, the gut-flies looked like they came out of barnacle-like things on the corpses so I'd bet they came from something suitably eldritch.

Corvo reveals he was the royal mime the entire time.

He just happened to graduate from Assassin's University with a Bachelor's in Magic and Doctorate in Knife-throwing

The sequel is set 15 years after the first. By the sound of it Emily was Empress but had her throne taken by some supernatural force. Did they mention Emily being Corvo's daughter in the first game?
