The last movie I saw was The Dark Knight Rises.

I'd like to see Lincoln though. I know it's awfully pleb to say this, but Spielberg is one of my favorite directors. And Daniel Day-Lewis is always great.

I hear they're making a movie called Dinosaurs vs. Aliens.

I'm really excited about that because I haven't seen a true dinosaur movie in AGES since Jurassic Park, but man... I want a fucking Ninja Turtles vs. Critters movie.

I liked the overall redemption-at-a-cost theme of Looper. And closing the loops as a job was just a metaphor for the same bad shit repeating itself until some sort of sacrifice is made. And while Old Joe was right about the redemptive power of love, and the fact that it saved him from himself, he didn't realize that self-sacrifice was necessary to see that redemption fully realized - that his own loop needed to be closed so that an innocent person could have that chance. It's implied (with all the mother-talk and hair rubbing), that Joe would have been "saved" if he had had that redemptive love from the beginning.

"When teenager Kirsten (Julie Austin) accidentally cuts her hand during an "Anti-Christmas" pagan ritual with her friends Brooke and Amy in the woods, her spilled blood awakens an ancient demonic Christmas elf. The elf is the central figure in a modern-day Neo-Nazi plot to finally bring about the master race that Hitler had always dreamed of conquering the world with. Rather than a race of pure-blood Aryans, it is revealed that Hitler instead dreamed of a race of half-human/half-elf hybrids (it is also revealed that elves figured heavily into a pseudo-cult religion that the Nazis practiced in secret). Kirsten is also a figure in this plot as she is the last remaining pure-blooded Aryan virgin in the world, her Grandfather being a former Nazi who was once involved in the plot (but is now reformed); he is also her father, as inbreeding was somehow considered crucial to maintaining a pure Aryan bloodline. Unaware of all these sinister goings-on, the non-festive Kirsten continues to sulk her way through the Christmas season as she works at the snack counter of a local department store."

Does anybody want to watch this movie?

Oh man the scene where the daughter is throwing the grenades made me lol so hard. I can get past the whole locating yourself via grenades thing, but she made such a sissy toss and then it flew like 100ft.

Monty Python is the most overrated thing since eternal life.

Seriously.

I watched 300 for the first time tonight.

It is the most ludicrous example of cultural revisionism since Thrall's "noble savage" retcon. I'm okay with weird, inexplicable zombies, wizards and crab-things joining in, but the Spartan's totally ripped off the Athenian democracy shtick with that bogus council and voting bullshit, not to mention they stole all the glory for themselves at the last stand. Where were the Thespians? They stayed behind, too! They died in that rearguard stand, too! Where's their badass hero-king tribute legend guy? And what about the fleet at Artemision? The way this movie shows it, a ragtag bunch of plucky Spartan heroes single-handedly held off an empire while all the other Hellenes hid and pissed themselves. Athens was totally hardcore. It was totally fucking up Xerxes' shit out at sea, and there's not even a fucking reference to their badass navy and the way they would chase the Persian navy onto land, get off their own ships and slaughter the fleeing enemy sailors!

What a joke. Spartan bias.

One of the prettiest woman I've seen in movies.
Maybe she could play in the new Mummy movie since her husband is going to direct it.

Just rewatched:

Definitely my favorite Tarantino movie. (Not his best, arguably, but my favorite).

The justification for the movie is that it's a recount of how the Spartans remember it, explaining why it's so ridiculous, self-aggrandizing, and over-the-top.

Unfortunately, this justification doesn't change the fact that the movie itself is ridiculous, self-aggrandizing, and over-the-top.

As an interesting comparison, I saw an old '60s movie called the 300 Spartans which also covers Thermopylae. Rather than trying to justify Sparta's monstrous policies as being badass, it simply pretended they were basically decent, hard-working American MidWesterners clad in hoplite armor. I actually found this less objectionable, if only because it whitewashes instead of attempting to turn infanticide into a virtue.

What really frustrated me about 300 though is that the Battle of Thermopylae was just so fucking amazing and incredible in real life, and they had to ruin it by adding a bunch of ogres and other nonsense. I'm not a big Frank Miller fan, but his comic played it pretty much straight, and was much better for it.
