Anyway, it was an interesting exam, many different tests. Thought I screwed up in a number of places, especially when it came to transcribing phone numbers from audio files you could only listen to once (its the last four digits that kept throwing me for a loop, until I came up with an easy way for me to remember).

Scored a 93%! And my keystroke score was 3780, when the goal was to reach 3000. Safe to say I did well. Now, doesn't mean I have a job for sure yet, but those who pass and have a higher score will get called earlier for open positions (and as it happens, there's three openings right now). The only part I'm not happy about is that the shifts are 12 hours each, four days in a row (and then four days off, repeats like that), which may get a bit tiring. But eh, I'm willing to work. I need money, it pays decently, and its a job. Here's hoping!
Great to hear! Not only is it a good job, it's an important one.

Definitely, though its a little daunting at times to realize just how much I'll be doing but there'll be six months of training (should I get the job) and I know I'll get used to it. I'm also a little worried about "taking it home with me", as it were. I know some things I may hear will stick with me, but I'll deal with that as it comes. I will definitely be happy to be in a position to help others, though.

Also the location of the exam was really cool, it was set up in the emergency command center (since it had a lot of computers set up). It looked like something out of one of those disaster movies (which makes sense, I guess, heh), giant wall of TVs with some showing the news, others weather, power outages, tracking the tropical storm in the Atlantic, etc.

I have a lot of respect for you for sticking to it.

At the moment, I'm looking for a new industry in which to work. I'm in a position where I can safely say "goodbye" to Internet marketing, and never return (and thank goodness for that). Once things settle down, I'll start doing some serious hunting.

Reviewed a tapas bar for my side gig as a food critic.

The manager comped me an entire pitcher of sangria.

This is basically me right now.

The other half just wants to snap out of this feelings bullshit and go back to stubbornly following the same line I thought I had until today. At the same time, it's that stubborn line of thought that got me into this mess - MAYBE - or it could still keep me protected. I don't know. Emotions and feelings suck.

I know that made no sense, but I needed somewhere to vent.
You haven't given us much to go on, but you wouldn't post unless you wanted some advice or commiseration, but we can't do the latter without specifics so:

I think you need to think hard on what you want and just go for it, life is too short to deny ourselves the things we really need. Having strong principles is great, it makes us feel better and stronger, but it also requires a lot of sacrifice. I am not saying to give up on your principles (and I am guessing you are a principles driven person) but if they are causing you lots of grief and preventing you from getting the stuff you really want, then change them a bit. Honestly, no one will probably even notice, this sense of duty towards your ideals and past self are entirely in your mind. So think long and hard, decide if the life you lead and the ideas you hold mean more to you than the thing (a person, I'm guessing) you're missing out on and the good things that could come from it, and act accordingly. Ideals are ultimately an idealized way we see ourselves and the world, and we strive for them, if you learn something new about yourselves it is only natural to change your goals, or needlessly suffer otherwise.

Lastly, don't ignore emotions. I used to be like that, I felt they were useless and a hindrance, and maybe they are. But you can't really shut them down, pretending you are above it all works for a short while and you feel strong but then a slump like the one you're in comes along and proves otherwise. This story, ignore your emotions and then get double wrecked by them keeps cropping up, again and again, so maybe there is truth to it eh?

One day it was really hot, now it's full blown autumn weather. I hate sudden temperature changes.

Can't wait to drink in the crispness of the autumn air and prepare for the long dark nights ahead.

I don't, because that hotness was exhausting. Hooray for the winds!

Still have hot and sunny weather around here. I hate that. At least it's better than hot and rainy.

I'm a bit miffed because they're likely to close the pool for the season if this weather continues (or they may already have). And I haven't actually went yet, but was planing to, right about now.

/sigh

At least I swam a lot on my vacation.

Yeah in hindsight you're one of the last people I should be complaining to about the lack of swimming time.

While sudden temperature changes tend to make me sleep (case in point, I slept roughly 14 hours today, though part of that is probably because I didn't sleep much the previous night (anxiety about said exam) and a change in medication), I welcome the autumn weather, however briefly. Though it reminds me that we really need the damn windows replaced before the stinkbugs begin trying to find places to hide for winter. I dread the invasion...

>meanwhile, it's cold in Quebec
>finally heads back home
>what the fuck

Was invited to review a bar for an article by a PR rep friend of mine.

Ended up getting a book deal and TV show pitch out of the head bartender/owner, free tequila shots and a girl invited herself out on a date with me while me and the bartenders were talking.

Now I can see why people become alcoholics.

I'm just a social drinker. When someone has a drink, I say so-shall-I!

I like to temper and hammer it into white hot fury, saving it for the right moment.

Why in God's name would you want to smash your head in while drawing?

Are you really that terrible at it?

Shape up, Neocat. Fuck's sake.
