Good. I've felt it was a dumb name since hearing it. Go Star Wars and call it the "Horde Remnant".

No, the Darkspear have surpassed any other playable surpassed in absurdly low numbers.

* They were the smallest Troll tribe to begin with.
* Some died escaping the island.
* Echo Isles was razed by Kul'tiras
* Zalazane brainwashed more then half the Darkspear. Many or all of these hexed Darkspear were killed, and what happened to the survivors if there were any at all isn't mentioned.
* The countless Darkspear corpses to begin with.

ETC, there's plenty of events I'm not even mentioning.

It bugs me that Vol'jin refuses to play it safe with this already tiny population or try diplomacy to bring in more trolls.

But the biggest undamaged population should be the Dwarves at this point. Their lands are more or less inviolate and their economy and military the most intact.
Evidence?

Blizzard could have made that work. The 'underdog status', if they had had the orcs be smart about things and not launch into war after war after war, and to not needlessly antagonize everyone around them. Bring back the clan system that worked on Draenor and spread out the orcs. Keeping them all clustered in the one city in Durator was stupid of Blizzard.
You have no sense when it comes to this franchise.

That and the fact that orcs are not the only ones who are still alive due to "game mechanics." Could Garrosh have won the war against the Alliance if "game mechanics" and Alliance "plot armor" did not stand in the way?

Deep within the fiery heart of Blackrock Mountain, the black dragon Nefarian conducted twisted experiments with the blood of other dragonflights.

Intent on seizing the entire region for his own, he marshaled the remaining Dark Horde, a rogue army that embraced the demonic bloodlust of the old Horde. These corrupt orcs, trolls and other races battled against the Firelord Ragnaros and the shadowy Dark Iron dwarves for control of the smoldering mountain.

Before he was vanquished by fearless heroes, Nefarian created the twisted chromatic dragons and a legion of other aberrations in his bid to form an army powerful enough to control Azeroth and continue the legacy of his infamous father, Deathwing the Destroyer.

Considering they followed Rend and Maim... I highly doubt it.

Well I don't blame them. Rend was responsible for two critical victories, whereas Orgrim systematically destroyed the Horde with military defeats.

(Those victories being the rescue of Zul'jin, and the Battle of the Broken Isles against the treacherous Twilight's Hammer. Ha, no wonder the Forest Trolls stayed with the Dark Horde!)

You mean, that one minor tribe whose only presence is in blackrock mountain and that retconned RPG tribe?

Truly, a grand alliance between the races.

To be fair, the whole Dark Horde is kind of pathetic without Nefarian. Two clans of orcs, one tribe of trolls, two ogre clans.

To be fair, you could say the same about the darkspear tribe and the Horde.

Horde also has the revantusk, and the darkspear are a lot further spread than the smolderthorn. I mean, it's still not much, but at least the trolls are doing more than hiding in the deepest recesses of the capital.

Mhmm. When a faction gets crushed by a Rambo parody you know they aren't doing well.

Hey. War Master Voone has become one of my favorite Second War characters-we-never-knew-about, I have you know.

Quote:
During the Second War, Voone led small strike teams on daring missions into the heart of high elven territory. The cunning troll joined the false Horde because he wanted to be its chief strategist, not because he believed in Blackhand's ideology. Voone sees the splinter faction as an underdog, and he enjoys the satisfaction of overcoming insurmountable odds.
If I were a more prolific writer, I'd totally fanfic this guy's life. Stuff like this snippet is infinitely more interesting than characters in the two main factions.

In a perfect WoW, Voone would show up again.

Before the Horde can move forward, the orcs, who are arguably still the Horde's largest contingent and primary benefactors, will need to do a little soul-searching and some reflection on defining what it means to be orcs. Who they were. Who they are. And what they want to be. Hopefully, this will be accomplished in Warlords of Draenor, but that will require Blizzard to not let themselves get overwhelmed by the "rule of cool" in regards to the Iron Horde.
