Default Why do people here say Illidan...

...Caused the Forsaken to break free? The WC3 interlude says Ner'zul power leak was caused by pushing out Frostmourne from Icecrown, not by Illidan's using the Eye of Sargeras.

Orb of Lightning

Do people say that here?

In any case, Frostmourne's exit wound caused Ner'zhul to slowly begin losing power, but the sudden power failure that allowed the Forsaken to escape was caused by Illidan fucking things up.

There is presumption, assumption, extrapolation and determination. This is extrapolation, a method of critical thought by which conclusions are reached based on observed evidence.

Its funny because i was going to write "extrapolating" at first but i changed my mind.

Now ot, well, the only thing that theory has in its favor is that Ner'zul didnt tell Arthas until he was already having seizures and shit but who knows since when he had pulled out frostmourne from there. Weirdest things than him not telling Arthas before have happened in WC.

Illidan's attack being the cause is derived from the in-game book Civil War in the Plaguelands (which in turn, if memory serves, is also an entry in the WoW instruction manual).

Specifically, the first page:

"Ner'zhul, the Lich King, knew that his time was short. Imprisoned within the Frozen Throne, he suspected that Kil'jaeden would send his agents to destroy him. The damage caused by Illidan's spell had ruptured the Frozen Throne; thus, the Lich King was losing his power daily. Desperate to save himself, he called his greatest mortal servant to his side: the death knight Prince Arthas."

Kinda sad how the connection is never made in the lore.

I still wish TBC had shown Illidan as an ally against the legion, or at least less of a senseless antagonist than he was ingame

It was kind of obvious in The Frozen Throne.

Illidari and Sha'tari factions would have been a better way to go.

Interestingly, some quests DID showcase the fact that Illidan was preparing for the coming fight versus the Legion, training demon hunters and whatnot.

The moral is: Don't mess with the Na'aru...

I'll never forget those days. Illidan was my favourite lore character then and when TBC came out...

-Illidan is preparing to fight the Burning Legion, training a lot of demon hunters.
-Yay.
-And we're going to stop him.
-Why?
-Because he attacked the Naaru.
-Why would he do that?
-Because he's evil. And mad. And a demon. Epics.

Yeah because Illidan's plans always go perfectly and dont end up getting everything worse, failing or both.
