I'd say it's a reversal of roles.

EDIT: Also:

Because if a storyteller is doing his job, he makes you care. And if that storyteller then says "I dunno, then they stopped fighting, I guess," without any explanation or clarification, his audience has every right to be pissed off. Because they were given reason to stay interested, reason to keep up with his tale, only to be shut down just as things were getting good. A waste of time, a waste of emotional tension, a waste, if you fail to grasp the significance of narrative, of money.

Well, at least you can say that AU Orcs and Draenei stopped fighting, because they saw "A GREATER EVIL".

Except they knew about it before.

It's funny how the "greater evils" never do any where near as much as damage or kill anywhere near as many people as the Horde. And yet, the Alliance is expected time and again to drop it's pants and let the Horde have their way.

It's like, "Wow, we totally didn't expect this demon guys to actually be a threat!"

Despite, y'know, the story of both the Draenei and the Iron Horde coming directly from their defiance of the Burning Legion and the promised revenge from said Legion.

Oh, he still talks big and all that, but EVERYBODY does in World of Warcraft. And still gets downed by the Twenty Good Men.
It's more than talking big, Archimonde genuinely had some intimidating lines. And he spoke to people like he knew who they were.

He didn't just yell and shout like a drunken hobo who didn't know where he was. He was a cunning general. He was just undone by his own hubris and greed. (Which is a cliche, but it was well-done regardless)

Speaking of, still no voice files for Archimonde? =\

Yes, at least his hubris is believable. It wasn't the "20 hero characters destroying every monster in his citadel before ending him" kind of hubris. It was the "I killed everyone in my way so far, why should I lose now?"

After all, "killed by super-wisp explosion" is one crazy way to die, nobody in the universe aside from Furion probably imagined.
