So Sylvanas kidnapped an Argent Crusader.

Good stuff.

But no, I liked this story.

In the short term, they can continue to raise the odd Human corpse that the Alliance don't cremate, that's true, but as we've already had established: Not every newly raised Undead will join the Forsaken (see their starting area) many kill themselves on the spot or flatly refuse to serve Sylvanas.

Long term? They can't keep their numbers up and have no means of stopping their own decay/final death.

It's not something we'll ever see addressed in WoW's lifetime, but I'm curious, way down the line, how Blizzard deal with them. I really hope they don't fall back on some shitty cliche "OH LOL IT'S FINE GUYS, MAGIC FIXED IT, THEY DON'T ROT ANYMORE!" but I wouldn't be suprised.
Actually "magic fixed it they don't rot" WAS the explanation before ("shadow magic keeps them in a state of preserved decay"). I guess the current explanation of their biology is "they dont rot but their bodies get damaged with use".

I think if they'd had any idea World of Warcraft would be around for so long, they would have made some better decisions on playable races... namely, the Forsaken should have not ever been one.

It's like I keep saying. The Forsaken need to double down on this Mary Shelley vibe they've got going on.

More lightning rods. More vats of goop. They could still have a use for a strong agricultural sector if they're using plants and animal products to grow all sorts of tissues in jars and labs. The limbs that come out perfectly go to maintain the Forsaken elite, those that come out alright go to the rank and file's limbs when they wear out, and those that come out oversized or misshapen go to maintaining a crew of abominations.

Then they can use their priests to contact the spirits of the dead and give them the opportunity to come back to the world of the living, construct a body out of spare parts, then jury rig those lightning rods into spirit conduits that can yank willing souls and shove 'em into meat sleeves.

In case I was unclear. What I'm proposing for the Forsaken is MAD SCIENCE.

Do you remember that the Forsaken and WoW aren't actually living entities but the result of writers, right? If Blizzard didn't want the Forsaken like they are they'd have written them differently but no, they have gone out of their way to show they are amoral assholes for over a decade already.

lmfao

1) The Forsaken are kidnapping Argent Crusaders

2) The Argent Crusade supports the Alliance in Lordaeron

3) The prisoners in Undercity are explicitly referred to as "Alliance" in the end so gg "actually they're Scarlet prisoners"

4) "Nathanos Marris is another man with another life"

5) Sylvanas has to kind of give up a Val'kyr to do this so we probably won't be seeing Human Forsaken models

6) "I am building a new kingdom, Nathanos, made up of the Forsaken dead freed from the Lich King's thrall"

7) Turns out that being Scourge isn't really a mind prison so much as an overwhelming compulsion to do whatever the master wants and nothing else matters.

In conclusion eat my ass

I mean like as far as I'm concerned the whole "sympathetic Forsaken" thing was buried as of Legion when they are literal 1:1 Scourge analogues complete with "Death to the Living" and "Join us in death" and "Thanks for killing me" quotes and this seems to further push the Forsaken in a less retarded direction so I'm happy with it

Creepier than that, really. Apparently she really wants Nathanos' old face and body back, but since she can't have that, a cousin who kinda resembles it is close enough.

Especially since the plan - and the specifics in particular - aren't Marris'. He doesn't really come across as eager or looking forward to having a better body. In fact he seems pretty minimally invested in the whole thing beyond "I'll do it because Sylvanas says so," which means it was entirely her idea to selectively choose a victim related to him, presumably so he'd look passingly similar to how he looked before he died.

This is some straight-up Criminal Minds stuff.

We need to have a story about the "spirits" supposedly telling Vol'jin to name Sylvanas Warchief. Maybe he was just smoking some weed mon.
IMO it's pretty clear, the Loa we've encountered thus far aren't exactly the most Lawful Good of people, they want someone who gets the job done with little regard of any collateral damage.

Gesturing at the man, the Blightcaller turned to his queen. "What is this?"

"Fuel," answered the icy voice of the Val'kyr.

Sylvanas strolled around the occupied altar. "A sacrifice is required for the ritual. Flesh that is... akin to your own." She stopped near the paladin's head and fixed her gaze upon Nathanos.
But why read the actual thing when we just can make up our own stuff, right?

Mana

Is it just me, or did this story introduce a lot of fridge horror regarding Koltira and what Sylvanas may or may not be doing to him? Dark mirrors, indeed.

Fair enough, my mistake.

I'll admit I haven't gotten around to the second or third read-through I usually give these stories to catch any details I missed the first time around.

When was this? If it was part of the DK artifact questline, I haven't done it, and haven't looked at anything about it.
