Orb of Venom

So what I'm hearing is generally that for a virus to be successful, it would need to be able to infiltrate elevated, wooded and fortified positions.

I figure an aerosol could probably get around that...

Surplus gas masks are hella cheap.

Just make sure any old ones you get aren't still fitted with asbestos filters.

Most people have terrible cardio anyways so even without a bike you could probably outrun them.

Get to the top of a tall building, barricade myself there, shut off the elevators and hope someone arrives with air support before I starve to death. I assume zombies are too stupid or weak to climb stairs.

Leaving no path of escape seems like a poor idea.

Hopefully it's a tall enough building to be a more sure method of suicide than via bullet.

I like to make up plans for everything, that includes zombie apocalypses. I'll live.

You know, I am always a bit surprised how popular zombie stuff became (to me personally it is ok, but nothing special). Especially given how unlikely a zombie apocalypse is compared to other kinds.

So many zombies totally ignore any kind of energy demands, totally ignore wear and tear supposedly because they're dead (even thought that makes no sense, how do they even function then). Basically what pisses me off is that everyone is trying to sell magical zombies while stubbornly trying to make them pseudo-scientific despite it being fairly impossible (28 days later probably being the closest you can realistically get).

Perhaps the reason is that if it is magical then there needs to be a source, a reason for all that "evil" and possibly a way to end it. But in most zombie fiction the focus is on how people react to zombies and the hopeless situation, why the zombies are there is irrelevant, they just are. By making it scientific in nature it makes their presence more cold, detached if that makes sense.

So yeah, just some thoughts on the whole issue.

Zombies in the strictest sense can hardly be even considered science fiction anymore given that dead tissue can't do all that biomolecular stuff. The 28 days later series tried to compromise by having living people going feral instead while Walking Dead keeps the origin of phenomenon unknown though still implies it to be scientific in nature.

I like the versions where the zombie virus is a non-carbon based organism/bacteria/virus. To carbon life it's dead but it still keeps going, using "dead" tissue as we use vegetation for clothing and housing. That'a why it's completely unstoppable by our immunal system etc.

I'm assuming I'm going to be in New York City when the zombie apocalypse happens. It's far too densely populated on the ground for me to survive. My assumption is basically, I'd have a choice between dying in a few hours or dying in a few days if the military or some other force doesn't get things under control. I'll take my chances dying in a few days.

Do you like to eat MREs? They have a lot of calories and a candy.
