I think we should have a little reorganization of the forums. Instead of being a World of Warcraft focused forums we can just focus on video games in general. Overwatch is a fairly popular Blizzard game and we could try to draw activity to that section of the forum. We could have subsections for table top, comics, and other video games instead of just one big general forums section. SoL could still keep the feel of a small and close knit community unlike something like Reddit but we could expand a bit and try to attract new people to other interests we share. ![]() No thanks, at least no big changes needed. I've seen other communities try to do it and it didn't work out.
SoL is always a small community, there is no need to put more sub-sections, just put the general forum a bit above. Of course, we could expand the fanfic section into all fanworks, people here are all quite creative.

![]() There's certainly been substantial changes to the forum with the ostensibly temporary locking of the sociopolitical threads. Subsections would make it easier to better organize posts and let users participate in their own particular niches of interest.

![]() Just one question, why SC and Diablo sections are dead? Their lore is at least as good as WOW. SC1 was the best story of Blizzard and Diablo's world setting was awesome.

![]() I've already said what I had to in the R&R thread.
But to sum it up, increased moderation is good provided it is properly applied (i,e, not biased and going after the right things) to reign in the worst offenders with temp bans. The last part is key, we had relatively little moderation for a while so longer and longer temp bans may help people change. Avoid the instinct to doll out permabans. After a relatively strict period to bring the forum back into shape the moderation should back down again and not act unless someone does something really stupid. We want to preserve the air of free discussion as much as possible without completely devolving into tumblr vs /pol. I also like this idea to turn the forum into a more general gaming/nerd culture forum and I especially like the idea of getting new blood. Really we've gone through many discussions and battle lines have been drawn, new people could help shake things up. Though any big changes like that obviously need Warlock's approval. Maybe someone who knows him can clue him in and it is probably good that he take part in the ongoing discussion. |

![]() I can't comment on how things used to be given I just joined the other month, but is slower discussion in the WoW sections really a bad thing? There are a lot of large, active boards discussing these things, and the smaller, slower posting here is honestly what attracted me to SoL. It feels...I don't want to use the word quaint, that's not the right word, but simpler?
Though as for the problems with General Discussion yeah moderation here is way too loose. |

![]() I've always been partial to the Scorched Earth method.
Oh, and for the good of the forum, Kellick needs to lose the avatar. It's weirding me out.

![]() I don't think we really need new blood. Part of what makes SoL SoL is that the community is small and we all know each others.
We should leave the Warcraft and Blizzard sections as they currently are. For the general section, maybe add a "Video Games" subforum where games could have their own dedicated thread and be easy to find. I think that and good moderation are all the changes we need. |

![]() Sometimes, new users grow into people like Grackle, Ramses, and Shekinah. I say we encourage the new blood.

I don't see other video games being very popular here. You see few of the game threads here are very active.

![]() You should like make a video game based off of the forum. Use your computer science powers.

I've even tinkered with trying it with Solcu in a localized section, but I'd have to learn Solcu, and frankly I'm not sure how it would work out. Or how much I can stick with RPG maker. I've had various other ideas that I wanted to try and push for creations, something along the lines of a SoL fandom video network for those interested. Loop in Blizzplanet since we've got IGoD who posts there, some content creators already do WoW themed stories and lore videos. I think Hlaalu bro was just in a deadmines lore vidoe? It would be a good way to get new blood out, especially if we co-opt the reddit and story forums poster base to use as advertising. But most of them are community projects, not all of us are even interested in shit like that, and my free time is incredibly rare, so trying to plan shit out just wouldn't work at this point in time, even if I could get people interested, and I think it's shitty of me to start something as a suggestion then end up not having time to contribute

That said, thanks for the ideas, gang. Keep it coming. Out of curiosity, how did all of you find SoL to start posting on it? I first heard of it from the official Story Forums, lurked for a while, and eventually signed on, but where'd everyone else come from and how'd you get here? |
