Consider that lore can only be used to support what has already happened, and can never be used to dictate future or alternate history events.

If the Burning Legion were to have a subfaction that joins the Alliance/Horde in the near future, we would be given new lore to justify it, and from that point on all retroactive lore would be used to support that notion. We would say there was a precedent set by the Warlocks and use of demonic abilities, therefore it is only a step away from actually having ex-Legion allies. On the other side of it, there is no lore specific enough that would ever prevent a Legion subfaction from joining the Alliance or Horde. This examples shows that lore is irrefutable once set into play.

When you understand that lore is irrefutable and undeniable once set into play, we no longer speculate *if* it could happen. We should be focused on *why* it could happen. When you analyze the motivating factors to having playable Forsaken, Death Knights, Blood Elves on Horde and Pandaren, they are all drawn to the core concept of gameplay-driven design goals. The same reasoning applies to entire expansions, and why each expansion has such a different theme and vibe that never transitions well from one to the other. There was no seemless transition from Outworld to Northrend to Hyjal/Vashj'r to Pandaria. The story is clearly motivated by gameplay design to explore new worlds and content that befits the audience.
To that end, though, lore is only undeniable and irrefutable so long as it remains lore. The RPG books are a great example of something that was true until it wasn't true any more.

Yes, that should be a given.

We can't ever hope to remove Med'an from the lore unless Blizzard officially does it themselves.
