Default WoW as it originally would have been

I remember a post on a fansite showing a blackboard with ideas written all over by Blizzard's developers regarding what WoW was supposed to be.

I remember it being 100 years later the Third War, no more Alliance/Horde, and IIRC drakonids as a playable race. Does anybody have any info on this?

Eastern Kingdoms is the Alliance continent and Kalimdor is the Horde continent, and each faction's narrative is largely tied exclusively to their respective continents.

On that board there was no factions and also some classes were merged. I wish I could remember the title of the post.

Yus, found something:

http://pc.mmgn.com/News/WOW-was-almost-much-darker

Quote:
"For a good stretch of the early period of WOW, certain components of the dev team had pitched the idea of placing WOW a hundred years in the future of [Warcraft's world] Azeroth," Metzen told Eurogamer, the company's vice president of creative development. "The wars of orcs and humans were long-done, it was a much darker game. At the end of the day, there was a lot of cool art churned out - and this is a little-known story - but as we stood back and looked at it, we just felt that there was a disconnect. It didn't feel like Azeroth."
But there was more. There was that blackboard with the classes and races, I'm sure of it.

Probably some of that art is available at Sons of the Storm

Something like this I suppose:

The problem with a "one years after" setting is that you'd have less recognizable characters from the past.

Orb of Venom

Sounds like an interesting idea. It should at least have an easter egg in WoW, like a book lying around in SM: Library, or maybe some NPC rambling about 100 years in the future, or a little portal window thingie in Caverns of Time showing that artwork of that Paladin looking guy fighting that Blood Mage/WC2 DK looking guy.

The only races that would have had people die in the interim would be the humans, orcs, trolls, tauren (I know they can live a long time, but Cairne was damned old and unusually fit and active for such an old tauren) and probably goblins. The Kaldorei, Sin'dorei, Dwarves, gnomes and Draenei would still have a LOT of people who lived 100 years previously. I'm not sure how long the forsaken can/will last. The lore on how long they can 'live' is uncertain and contradictory.

Was it mentioned why they scrapped this idea?

Oh, I overlooked that. Maybe it was somewhat too Warhammer 40k? In the grim, dark future, there is only war? I would be happy if WoW was as dark as Warcraft 2. Just compare todays cinematics with the Warcraft 2 Horde cinematics.

Fojar complains that no one reads his "1000 words" OP. He has problems reading one that is about 50 words long.

Christ, I'm convinced Metzen wishes he could change Warcraft's name to "Orcs & Humans" along with "World of Orcs & Humans".

I still think one of WOW's major problem is that WAY too many major events all happened in a couple of years.

Pretty much this. Not only that, when everything is "epic," nothing is.

The last ''epic'' event was the Cataclysm. The faction war and all that happened on Pandaria doesn't really count as ''epic''. Same for WoD.

I thought the Scourge invasion was. Basically anything WotLK and beyond. Blizzard has been trying to one up themselves ever since TBC and it didn't become apparent for a while.

Necro-ing this post for visibility.

Since there are a few active users recently with info on cut content and scrapped concepts, perhaps some of you would have any idea on this matter?
