Judging Ali by his statements and stance in the SIXTIES - which he later recanted, just fyi - is about as ridiculous as doing the same with Malcolm X or most other civil rights activists. Segregation was real, white supremacist policies and authorities were real, and Black Power was a logical reaction in that period to stay strong and find a voice. You can find countless speeches of his during that period where he talks about how he doesn't hate Whites, he just loves being Black, and society was trying to mark "black" as distasteful and bad. And he was quite right. Nontheless he grew much softer later and was a great humanist in retirement.
