Though if there was one, hypothetically speaking, would it even be tied to a particular person? The major Asian nationalities don't terribly like each other I doubt you could find one person they'd all like. Or maybe you can, I don't know, that is why I'm asking.

I don't suppose they can observe Asian New Year as a federal holiday.

Those divisions get pretty blurred once people live in the US. Americans tend not to recognize the differences between ethnicities, and just lump everyone into big racial categories; as such, those in the second-generation see themselves more as racial category than anything else. This isn't always the case, but most second-generation Asian-Americans don't really care as much about their specific ethnic background.

I usually consider myself mixed-race rather than Asian-American. But I wouldn't want a mixed-race-American day either, because I don't really see the point.

Happy Easter! Or, if we were speaking a non-English language, I could instead wish you a Happy Passover!

Stupid English. I'll do it anyway. Happy Pascha!

Happy Easter guys

This is one of those serendipitous years when Catholic and Orthodox Easters coincide.

Apparently a large province or whatever in Belgium has banned the kosher and halal slaughter of animals.

This could be interesting.

So it's an animal rights thing? Hmm.

I'm not sure how inhumane it is to have "unstunned slaughter", compared to everything else in the meat industries. This might be worse than anti-semitism... by which I mean, vegan expansionism!

Have you ever seen a kosher/halal slaughter? It's the kind of thing Cattle Decapitation makes songs about.

Well, I'll let someone else defend Hebrew National hot dogs. Or whatever the Muslims make as equivalent.

I really need to finally read The Jungle.

For context, there was major outrage in Belgium only a few weeks ago after someone leaked videos from inside a slaughterhouse showing institutionalized animal abuse (and not in the usual 'slaughtering for meat' sense), resulting in a very, very strong push to ensure animal rights in the meat industry.

Reminds me of something that happened last year, when some farmer allowed some Muslims to kill a sheep on his property, and was charged with operating an unlicensed slaughterhouse.

Caused quite a fuss, actually. Don't know if anything came of it.

Why are Christian authorities so self-victimizing?

Yep. I don't want to be married off to someone way older than me when I am 9 years old!

That's why we have to do what we can to keep people from enshrining their religions in law.

Nothing to do with religion. It has to do with specific cultural beliefs.

You don't think religion plays into it?
