Less horrifying, but still enraging stuff heard on the radio ths evening:

Apparently women pay up to 15% more on beauty care products that are exactly the same as the men's version.

What in the actual fuck And while I realize that men have to pay to enter nightclubs and women don't, I just feel both cases should be handled, and not both ignored.

Yeah but how often do men buy those beauty care products compared to women?

Free market, nothing to see here. These aren't actual issues.

Under the free market, though, that IS fair. Women are willing to pay more for the same material, so the products aimed at women are more expensive.

But that's where we get at the unnecessary gender discrimination part, especially when told that they are the same product but marketed differently.

For the exact same thing? That are basically two feet apart in the aisle?

I'm wondering how many would be screaming bloody murder at a studio that sold a game's CE, never telling they gave the exact same content and goodies as a standart ed?

Don't get me wrong, that is bullshit, but so is the obsession of with beauty products. You REALLY don't want to know about the good hair vs. bad hair situation with black women. That shit drains bank accounts.

Or if the exact same game cost more for men than it did women while also marketed differently. I'm sure male gamers would be perfectly fine with it, because you know "free market."

I don't see what proximity has to do with anything.

Probably not a lot. Idiots, mostly. Because only idiots would buy the CE.

You're allowed to charge the price of what consumers are willing to pay. It's not illegal. Women are willing to pay more for beauty products. Not illegal, no problems here.

Yeah I don't see the issue. If women wanted a cheaper product they should buy the men's version if it's the same thing and costs less. It's legally required to list ingredients on such things I believe. I have no sympathy for people who get hoodwinked by marketing bullshit. All the pink silhouettes of slender, empowered women and silky, pastel colored packaging in the world aren't going to make me buy that oil of olay horse shit.

It's not an issue of legality but of gender and ethics.

Ethics has no place in marketing. Ethics really has no place in life, when you get right down to it: it's all a manner of social control.

People not coming forward is a big issue. No one can do anything about it if people will only report it on anonymous surveys.

Women and men who are sexually harassed need to report to the police first. Immediately, as soon as you are physically free to do so. It's horrible that people can be taken advantage of by celebrities who get protected by layers of people around them, but if you never go to the police nothing legal can ever be done about it.

How do you handle sexual assault accusations? Should you really not shower or change your clothes?

You're always going to want the evidence as preserved as possible. It's not required but it's smart. You should really get to the authorities as quickly as possible because the first thing that happens is you receive immediate medical care. But I hope you know you can't willy nilly go arresting people who get accused of an act immediately.

It's symptomatic of a more troubling systematic social pattern.

He even apologized for it, which is fine, but I have this feeling it was due to all of the screaming about "misogyny" over a goddamn shirt. That his friend designed for him (may potentially be NSFW?).

"But Yaki! It's inappropriate and unprofessional!" Yes, and I'm sure that his shorts, sneakers, and uncovered tattoos are the height of ESA dress code regulations. Hell, getting a closer look, these articles keep saying the women on the shirt are wearing bondage gear. I've seen bondage gear. That's not bondage gear.

...let's be honest for a minute, people. If y'all really think girls are so helpless and fragile that they won't want to get into the various sciences because of a goddamn shirt, then I agree that there's a problem, and it isn't with the scientific community. There's a quote I remember reading from a woman in the tech industry that approximately said, "all that mattered was the quality of my work and not the content of my pants, right up until a bunch of people came in and started demanding that all that should matter is the quality of my work and not the content of my pants." If you really want to get women into STEM fields, then actually talk about the women doing work in the STEM fields, don't just point at the men and scream "MISOGYNY!"

Fuck.
