Konietzko: It seems to me that people are uninterested in that. They get completely angry when we have fun with the teen romance stuff. I don’t know. I’m going to leave that alone.

It may seem a little weird that people would be interested in a cartoon character’s dating habits, but I think some fans do really care.

Konietzko: This is my new theory. Fans are more interested in imagining relationships between a myriad of pairings. But they’re profoundly disinterested in seeing any of those things manifest themselves on the show. So who knows, whatever. Mike and I as writers, we wrote it the way we found it to be entertaining, and that struck a chord with some, but maybe not with some others.


Romance in general is fine. Even in Avatar. The way they wrote it was shit. Pure, horrid, shit.

I'm not watching Legend of Korra, but a friend did give me the first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender, for Christmas and I'm quite enjoying it. I may get here someday.

Speaking as someone who saw Legend of Korra first and the Last Airbender second, I cannot advise you to watch the former when you've finished the latter. The swing era setting was awesome, but pretty much everything else would be a letdown.

Yeah, I've heard really mixed things about Legend of Korra. I'll probably wait for the show to finish and see what people say about then.

The worst part is Legend of Korra's first season had a really fantastic premise that made sense and could have been developed into a story with actual meaning and significance. It was fumbled.

Do you mean the deus ex machina which let Aang take Sozin down without killing him? Yeah, it was a deus ex machina, but it was also more or less incidental to the plot. The bottom line is Aang won.

There was that, but people were also pissed about other things. It was awhile ago now so I can't really remember but the complaining was far worse than anything I've seen about Korra.

That's hard to imagine, unless significantly fewer people are watching Legend of Korra.

well I thought I was the only one angry at the AtLA finale, I think the other stuff may be just with they found the old masters and discovered Fiya again.

Except it's no longer relevant and can only be assumed that this is the fire bending that they used even though it's the exact same and used in the same manner as the other 'hate-filled' Fire bending which can only stop if u no longer got hater fueling it.

I love how the logic just breaks down to Bryke being petulant brats who are so ill-advised about romance plots (thus can be evident in the original series BUT IT HAD PACING which made it tolerable. There was still some force tho) and writing in general that they throw a fit when they're called on their bullshit.

And yet they CAN WRITE DECENT EPISODES, and it's all the more infuriating because The Beginnings was the best shit in all of the Second Series because:

No Korra or her retracted personality/downgraded depth

No Mako and his 'I'm da best' plotline

No love story

Just good, old-fashioned hero on a journey and succeeds. With actual pace and character development. In two episodes, it managed to make a story and character more interesting and simultaneously end his arch than it took for Korra. Which is going to be 2+ seasons.

Ah, yes, the sun warriors were a little strange. Still, the narrative whole is relatively undamaged by that little episode, which struck me as redundant and unnecessary more than anything else. It added nothing, but ignoring it detracts nothing in turn.

Which is why it's filler, but it's suppose to be this huge-narrative piece and a adventure journey of depth like in Season 2.

Except it falls flat on it's ass. Now while the Season Finale of AtLA is better than Korra (1 or 2), it's still crock because it directly avoids Aang making a decision for himself whether deciding to sacrifice one's own fiber in order to end greater suffer is worth it.
