![]() A character being decent doesn't mean that he or she has no moral ambiguity.
A person being a sadist-rapist doesn't mean they don't have any redeemable qualities. The world isn't black and white. People are complex. Terenas having a torture chamber certainly isn't out of character, not unless there's been something to suggest that he actually had something against torture.

![]() Difference between moral ambiguity and being an ass. Want some ambiguity? Make the guy a drinker or gambler. Make him a cheater. Torture chambers just make him sparing the orcs and breaking up the alliance look even more ridiculous.

![]() I think the old thread hit its limit.
Anywho, Terenas. There's really no question, the quest makes it pretty clear. There was a man who worked in torture chambers during Terenas's time as king. He tells you as much at Venomspite. It just seems so... weird.

![]() The bitching was just becoming too much for that thread so it had to be put out of its misery.

![]() I think what disturbs me more than Terenas using torture chambers is the actual item here.
The rod of compulsion, you use it to make the Scarlets in the next quest say what you want them to say. You use it on them and they start crying foul about the Scarlets, saying they should befriend the Forsaken, and calling Abbendis a harlot. Thing is, the quest giver said he used one of those same rods. Why would Terenas have what is almost a mind-control device?

![]() Well, it certainly adds a new dimension to the character.
Of course, what we don't know is how often it was used. Enough that it was recognized obviously.

Complexity and flaws are fine. Even if you don't agree with them. Flaws that move the plot are fine. Being the polar opposite of what you appear to be and preach in order to be edgy and support the idea that people can't be good or evil just because is not fine. ![]() The man was a priest who spared the orcs out of morality. Not to torture or to interrogate. If that's how he was this whole time then fine. If that was the case then that also makes Uther freaking out about Stratholme seem silly if everyone was that edgy.

![]() I don't shadow priests really took off until after the Second War when that woman started talking about the Shadow-as-Light-and-Void (as opposed to Shadow-as-Void). But yeah.

Being okay with torture and being against killing all the orcs are hardly competing opinions for Terenas to hold. |

![]() Apparently Terenas was a paladin before paladins were invented, though.
