Default SDCC 2013 - Micky Neilson Interview (Questions Wanted)

The interview with New York Times Best Selling Author Micky Neilson took place on Friday, July 19th at 4:00pm PDT.

Micky discussed World of Warcraft: Bloodsworn, Diablo III: Book of Tyrael, Blood of the Highborne, World of Warcraft: Snow Fight.

Note: Questions from Scrolls of Lore fans and Blizzplanet. I hired mercenary David Frazier to take video of the panel with what little funds I have to bring the community this panel.

**Thanks SOL admins/moderators and SOL members for having me, and for giving me the strength to recover Blizzplanet when all hope was lost. SOL is always in my heart. Thank you, guys & gals.

We'll find out on Thursday. Strictly about licensed products to be unveiled at this SDCC panel.

... But I don't know what any of those are so how can I question about them?

It's a placeholder. Questions will begin once the video is uploaded tomorrow (Thursday).

This placeholder is basically a heads up. Once the video is uploaded, fans only have about 12-15 hours to submit questions throughout the night and morning.

I'll have to email the questions to David in the early morning (tops) before he leaves to the convention center.

Giving SOL members a heads up the questions will start to be taken after the video is uploaded. That way people won't miss the video and the opportunity to submit hot questions.

Alright, I've got a few questions, although they're mostly based on stuff they didn't announce, but we expect
  • What's the idea behind the Warcraft children's book? We don't see many children playing Warcraft games these days.
  • Any updates on the Warcraft Encyclopedia/Book of Cain for the near future?
  • Could we expect new formats for licenced products and the return of old loved ones (such as monthly comic books)?

Thanks again, Med!

Uploaded the last video (video #4) of the panel. I am about to finish downloading Video # 3. I know -- he is sending them to me backwards.

Psh why not ask 'Why did you announce a children's book to further exploit your franchise instead of announcing you know...an actual new book?'

Course my only other guess is they didn't announce a book since they'll wait till Blizzcon since it's an obvious tie in for the next expansion and in that case I'd forgive them.

Isnt the point to not get a tan while in your honeymoon?

Also, Id like to see that book, i can see the storyline.

Baby Varian cries because baby Thrall bullies him.

But daddy Metzen praises baby Thrall and his strenght, for he is his favorite son.

Going by the comments they were asked i think it will surely be a tie in since they want the books to mold better with the game. I like the fact they are doing a Childrens book along with the fact they did a Vol'jin one.. Proves they do listen to there fans honestly as i remember a panel where those two exact questions were asked (A Vol'jin book and a Childrens one).

If anything i am a bit upset with the lack of comics being talked about (unless i missed that or they are having another panel of course ).

That is the only logical next step

I propose Dr. Graevling for the illustrations.

Are there any other novels in the pipeline, but can't be named to to potential expansion spoilers?

With Thrall and Varian making an appearance in a children's book, it appears to be the case that they are the two "main" characters of World of Warcraft. However, the two characters often leave story fans polarised, and it is how often they're used as the outright basis for the story that earns them their detractors! How do you plan to toe the line between "iconic and visible" and "overbearing and stifling"?

How likely is it that you're going to write more children's books?

Are children's books being treated as an "aside", to be done for leisure and a complete bonus, or do you consider them as more fully fledged books taking out time from other "serious" novels?

While this book appears to have a very light-hearted, non-serious feel, do you have any plans to write canon, "lore-heavy" stories aimed at a younger audience? Possibly something like "The Hobbit" of Warcraft?

Recently Michael Stackpole joined the list of Writers to have produced Warcraft novels. How was it working with him? Are there any plans for Blizzard to continue working with him?

They have been asked several times if they would make a Warcraft Childrens book . I think each time they have been asked to do it was at Comic Con. If this is all the news they have then it is lacking insanely compared to previous times they attended comic con since they have not even showed or informed of us of a future comic !!
